A great way to enjoy essential oils is using those fizzy bath balls. Canyon Zen is providing you with an easy step-by-step instructions on how to make your own.

Fizzy Bath Balls

Makes 4 balls of 6cm each (2.36 inch)

You will need:

1 rounded cup baking soda

½ rounded cup Epsom Salt

½ rounded cup citric acid

¾ of half teaspoon to ½ teaspoon of water

3 teaspoons of olive oil or avocado oil

10 to 20 drops of essential oil (or a mix)

Fizzy ball molds

Mixing bowls

Spoon

Parchment paper

Food Plastic Wrap

  1. In a mixing bowl combine the baking soda, citric acid and Epsom salt. Mix well. Make sure to add rounded cups, it will matter when you are down to the last ball, otherwise you will come short.

  2. In another bowl, mix the water (start with ¾ of half a teaspoon), olive oil or avocado oil and essential oils. For a relaxing blend combine 9 drops Clary Sage and 6 drops Ylang Ylang, or for a relief blend combine 5 drops Frankincense, 5 drops Eucalyptus and 5 drops Pine.

  3. Slowly mix the liquid ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix well and quickly so the citric acid does not fizz. You can also mix the blend by hands instead of a spoon to make sure it is well mixed.

  4. Test the mixture, it should not be wet or humid, it should still be mostly dry. Take some of the mixture and put into one of the halves of the mold and get it out into your hand. Does the mixture holds? If yes, then you can continue. If not, add few drops of water, the less water the better. If you have too much moisture or humidity, add more baking soda, otherwise it will be difficult for the fizzy ball to come out of the mold, and as they dry they will lose their shape.  When the fizzy balls are correctly made they harden within minutes.

  5. Now that the mixture is ready, get the mixture into your mold. Fill each side of the mold with the mixture and press firmly. Add a little extra to the top of the mold and press both halves together until they almost touch and remove the excess. If you have added too much powder, you can twist the halves to shave the extra. When the two halves almost touch, hold the mold firmly for about 20 seconds.

  6. Gently remove one halves of the mold, gently holding the fizzy ball in your hand remove the other halves.

  7. Place the ball on the parchment paper to dry for 24 hours.

  8. To keep the fizzy ball fresh and to prevent the essential oils from evaporating, wrap each ball individually in food plastic wrap.

  9. To use, fill your bathtub with warm water, unwrap the ball and add the fizzy bath ball. Enjoy a relaxing bath, as it fizzes and releases minerals and oils.

  10. You can reuse the food plastic wrap for future fizzy balls.
